Glaxo Smith Kline (GSK) WATCH – PART 2

The recent GSK 480 million dollar bribery scandal in China is apparently just the last in a string of mega scandals. This was reported last summer:

“The US Justice Department said GSK was fined over misbranding its drugs Paxil and Wellbutrin, and for holding back data while making unbacked claims for its diabetes drug Avandia.”

“GSK pleaded guilty and agreed to the fines in what the department called the largest health care fraud settlement in US history.
GSK, one of the world’s largest health care and pharmaceuticals companies, admitted to charges that it had promoted antidepressants Paxil and Wellbutrin for uses not approved for by US regulators, including treatment of children and adolescents.”

As a result the US Authorities fined GSK no less than
3 BILLION DOLLARS. We’ll say that again… 3 BILLION US DOLLARS

World Environment Day

Today is a great day for the environment and what best than celebrate it with a positive environmental action: World Environment Day! As 2014 is the Year of Small Islands Developing States, it is a new possibility of proving your love for Malta!
This might be the occasion to organize a clean-up with your family and friends, plants a tree, use less water, turn off the lights, take the bus (or the bicycle)…

Ghajn Tuffieha Tower and Gaia Peace Grove

The Ghajn Tuffieha site falling under Gaia management includes one of the historic watch towers built under the auspices of Grand Master Lascaris in … , This was restored in collaboration with the Restoration Unit of the Work Division, while Gaia financed the replacement of the apertures, the construction of an internal staircase to make the tower accessible to visitors, information panels, a small PV system and CCTV system to monitor the whole site, thus reintroducing the original purpose and function of the tower.

Right next to the Tower, which is a magnificent and popular point de vue, Gaia planted a grove on abandoned agricultural land, turning the Golden Bay Headland into a woodland area. In 2013 this area was converted into a peacegrove, and dedicated to the memory and legacy of great international leaders – a place to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views, to gather your thoughts, to reflect, to honour and to be inspired by past minds and leaders. A number of information panels have been set up on the cultivation of olive trees and on the said international leaders, ranging from peace laureates, environmentalists, statesmen and musicians. Check out the entire list of panels online here.
